  1. When you hear the call of the café, drop everything and go.

  2. Other people’s opinions do matter. So make the words you say and the opinions you give nice, so that when you’re the other person giving an opinion, it can be kind.

  3. Make sure you’re phone has some water resistance because you’ll find yourself writing in the shower more often than not (like right now).

  4. Nothing is or will be perfect. Get used to it.

  5. Listen to music you love. Listen to music you do not like. Just listen to music.

  6. Smile.

  7. When someone invites you to do something they love with them, say yes.

  8. Consent and check-ins are the best way to personally imbalance power and hierarchy.

  9. Community doesn’t just happen; it should always be intentionally created—even if that intention is through chance.

  10. Embrace serendipity.

  11. When someone shares something with you, read it, listen to it, use it—even when you don’t entirely like or enjoy it.

  12. When you get an idea, write it down. You will forget.

  13. Drink water.

  14. You’re never going to write or read everything; but, you’re still going to try.

  15. Live for the hope of it all.

  16. When you’re dog wants pets, you supply the pets. Even if you’re in a hurry.

  17. Go on a walk. At least once daily.

  18. Look up into the dappled shadows.

  19. Explore every new place you go—even if you’re there only for a day.

  20. Read.

  21. Make your bed every morning. And check it off the to-do list.

  22. Your body is your mecha; take care of it.

  23. Hug like it’s the last time you’ll hug someone.

  24. Write like you are running out of time because you are. And that’s how it’s supposed to be.

  25. Welcome life as you welcome death: with a smile, a nod, and a wink.

  26. Don’t let organizing overcome the doing. It’s good to be in order; it’s better to be finished; and it’s best to be accomplished.

  27. Embrace chaos.

  28. Love in the solitude of self.

  29. Shade is good with wine or tea, but never with bread and water.

  30. Climb the mountain without reaching the pinnacle.

  31. Always three drinks: one for energy, one for hydration, and one for fun.
